Beautifully created by the current owners this is a magical mix….. firstly a classic ” Maison de Maitre “; with the hall, the depth of the house, leading from the elegant front door through to the garden  –  which is a wonderful mix between French formality  –  and exuberent  “British style” planting…

Within the house too the owners have married old style elegance with every modern comfort…. it is a absolute dream, from the moment you walk in, looking up at one of the most graceful staircases I have ever seen, and admiring the original floor tiles , Languedocian at its best…to the incredibly generous bedrooms – there isn’t a false note anywhere.  It really ought to be in the pages of one of the ” Glossy Mags ” that celebrate this region and its’ heritage.
It’s practical too, not just one but two garages  – although there could be an argument for changing the lower garage into another gite….
Please note the use of the word ” another “…. this is a combination of properties, and already includes 2 Gites plus an Art Gallery….. which could either be a third Gite .. or could be added to the gite that is next to it, doubling its size.
There is another, totally independent, gite close to the Maison de Maitre, the current owners call it ” The Dolls House ” and it is utterly charming….   The scope for income stream is currently maximised by using a part of the Maison de Maitre as a Chambre d’Hotes, with the owners’ self contained accommodation at the top of the house.
It truly shows that this has been a Labour of Love, with the owners’ son, a skilled carpenter, giving his input  – that shows his vision  –  particularly in the Art Gallery, which was previously an old Forge. The semi industrial feel has been respected, and we particularly loved the “bridge ” linking two mezzanine areas… brilliant use of space….
This is just such a wonderful mix of buildings; they have all been developed with a real understanding of traditional architecture, married to the vision of adding modern day comforts in a subtle and visually beautiful way…..
To precis :
Approaching the property…. and looking just like a beautiful and traditionally French village home .. is the first Gite, accessed from the front…. but with the Art Gallery accessed from the side.
Next, ” The Dolls House ” ,( Joseph and I suspect that this may have been the Maison de Guardian ), an independent, stone built house, picture postcard pretty, and the second Gite.
Then, the utterly classic, Maison de Maitre……  everything that this style of building should be….. elegant, high ceilinged rooms. And all of the rooms in this magical building are generous….  totally delightful…. we adore it…
The location is stunning too, set in wine country, glorious views and in one of the traditional ” Circulades ” villages…. which is exactly as it sounds  –  circular – with the old church forming part of the inner ring of the village. This property, with its three elements has a particularly lovely placement.  Set on the outer side of the ” Ring ” of the village, it is flanked, to the left of the Maison de Maitre, by a tiny country lane… and, to the rear, the garden looks out over the countryside , where you can watch the grape vines change colour from the acid green of Spring to the reds and ochres of Autumn.
This combination of old stone buildings is an utter gem….as indeed is the village…..charming in every way, and a part of ” La France Profonde “…. the Real France…. so rare to find something this good …. a real find…..
