This is one of the most beautiful properties I have ever been privileged to see, it is a seamless marriage between history  – (  the house dates back to the 13th century )   –  and modern function…..  and the interiors are designed with subtle nods to the current owners’ personal history of world travel.   These are people who appreciate beauty, and have spared no effort in creating it in this warm and wonderful home.
The location is astounding, the rear façade of the property overlooks a small river, where the ducks perform a day long water ballet….. you look out to the tree canopy  on the opposite bank  –   birds everywhere  –  yet you are only a matter of a very short walk to the village centre.  From the vast roof terrace at a higher level the mountain views are a delight, and the terrace itself is a stunningly elegant outside space.   The current owners have hung the walls with flowers, and, for hot summer days, have provided a sun awning to shade the beautifully fitted decking…
The design is an inspired mixture of  large “open plan ” areas, and smaller, more intimate spaces, This is a seriously large house  –  340 sq Metres  –  immaculate in every way, yet never feels “daunting ” …. It is a family home  – warm, welcoming, and just so beautifully designed.  I lost my heart to the smaller terrace that leads from the kitchen, ( lovely kitchen ),and, .to be able to walk up the road to buy your fresh croissants from the local baker, then come home to greet the smell of morning coffee, and then to sit on this terrace for breakfast……  it’s the stuff of dreams…
 In the evening I suspect that the vast upper terrace would lure me for a glass of wine before dinner, watching the sun go down, and looking across to the mountains …..(. needless to say the current owners have equipped this area with a mini kitchen area….)….( heaven forbid that your wine should be warm..)…  This takes ” the good life ”  to a totally different level…..  rooms, spaces ,to match your every mood…..This property is part of a vibrant village, yet the property looks out over a totally “country ” landscape, alive with birdsong, and, if you sit very quietly, an enchanting family of coypu will stop pretending to be river stones   and the mother and her babies will enchant  you….. until you get distracted by the kingfisher – like a splash of moving light…..diving into the little river…
This truly is one of the “Statement ” properties in a village that has just been recognised as a “Site Remarquable ”  –  partly because the original village layout has largely been unaltered by time, but also because of our wealth of wonderful properties.  We are fortunate here in that we do not suffer from the draconian requirements relating to to old properties that some countries suffer from  – so please don’t be scared that owning a wonderful, old property will land you with a list of ” can do / can’t do ” legislation….. It’s not like that here…. painting the outside bubble-gum pink would probably not be allowed but what you do inside is your own affair …..( far more sensible in my personal view…..)
Joseph and I both feel that this property has everything  –   the huge upstairs terrace, a double sized ” library meets sitting room  ) –  also used for snuggling down to watch TV   –   although there is  ( of course ) another TV area in the dining / sitting room linked to the kitchen , and this open plan space has a super, pellet burning, stove,  spreading warmth for chilly winter evenings………  The bliss of a large house is “having choices “…… 2 dedicated office spaces….. guest accommodation at ground floor with an en suite, ( perfect if any family members have any mobility issues ) as well as the bedrooms and en suites upstairs…..and I do so love a walk in wardrobe………so practical….Joseph and I both have our own favourite bits  –  but we are united in agreeing that this is one of the most stunning properties that either of us have ever seen….

Amazingly, for a property that dates to the 13th century, the Diagnostiques report is splendid  –  proof of one on the most intelligent updates of an old house that we have seen in a month of Sundays.
