Utterly wonderful in every way – fabulous build quality, brilliantly designed interior, stunning interior decoration – show stoppingly good!  Price?  Fantastic – as all the furniture is included, the quality is outstanding, and there is that wonderful benefit of outdoor space!

This is one of the very, very, very few houses where you could just arrive with your suitcases and have a wonderful time.  The current owners have operated this property as a gite and, understandably, it has had excellent reviews.  The photos show exactly how wonderful this two bedroomed house is – such charm, it’s easy to heat, it’s close walking distance to the middle of Chalabre with its shops, bar/restaurants, Saturday Farmers’ Market and our local Hotel with an excellent chef.  Lac de Montbel is only about 5 minutes by car so if you want to swim, sail, picnic – you don’t need to ” head to the Med ” – just pop up the road and enjoy whichever part of the lake appeals to you.  Restaurants at both ends of the lake, boats for hire to get to the islands in the middle – it’s a joy.

This house was restored by one of our best local builders, then bought and decorated by people who live in the village.  It’s one of the best gites that Jennifer and I have ever seen and we promise you that quality has mattered from the outset.  French Country Classic, restored stone walls, a grape vine scrambling over a trellis above the front terrace, a couple of steps up to the front door, safety railings made by a local craftsman and true to the age of the building.  At the top of this little no through road are the wrought iron gates that mark the end of the land belonging to the Chateau Chalabre and Jennifer and I believe that these charming stone built cottages were for people who worked at the Chateau.. a wealth of history.

You enter into the fully fitted kitchen/dining room – laundry area cleverly hidden behind a wall at the far end, oak units, understated – but high quality.  Up the open plan staircase and you are in the sitting room that –  apart from the toilet and bathroom to the right of the stairs  –  uses the whole footprint of the cottage to give a generous and incredibly comfy sitting room – again with exposed stone walls and views of the mountains over the lovely tiled roofs of the houses below.

Up again and you arrive at the two generous double bedrooms – the larger one has the beautiful views across the rooftops and hills to the Pyrenees whilst the slightly smaller one looks out over the equally lovely Chateau land.  Again, beautifully finished and decorated.

As a matter of principle we don’t use ” fisheye ” lenses to make things look bigger… the photos are an honest picture of how lovely this cottage is.  Possibly the best ” cottage ” restoration we have seen – marrying respect for the building’s age with modern style and convenience.  It really is a gem, see it and love it – we do!
