This is one of the ” best buys ” we hold at the moment, very reasonably priced and definately one of our totally favorite houses …
It’s a classic, old,house with seriously thick stone walls to keep the warmth in during winter and keep too much heat out in summer…..it is an “edge of village location ” with easy walking distance to the centre of the village; It has been a loved family home for holidays for two generations of the same family – and it shows… This is a property where you could just arrive with your suitcases and enjoy…. either as a full time home or continuing its use as a second / holiday home….
Best of all there is outside space – one of those wonderfully, typically French agreements of a “Jardin d’Agrement” the house itself owns some outside space but this space is trebled by the agreement with the Chateau owner that he is happy to agree the use of additional land – trebling the space to allow a decked “outside room ” that overlooks the land belonging to the Chateau and to the old Pavilion du Chasse ( the Chateau hunting Lodge )…. it’s gorgeous..trees – probably dating back to the 1800’s – give dappled shade in summer and the Chateau land has wild flowers hidden in the grass. All the houses on this road have the same agreement and this makes it one of the most sought after parts of Chalabre.
As you enter into a generous hall there is a dining room to your left, overlooking the tiny no through road where this property is set, to the back of the house is a laundry room and a seperate toilet….. Then up the stairs, to a light, bright living room, mountain views peeping over the hills that surround this village, to the front of the house, to the back an equipped kitchen….. backing on to the Chateauland …. Up again to the main bedroom – seriously generous – walk in wardrobe to your left – and an en suite to your right before you go into the bedroom and see the jaw dropping mountain views from the main bedroom.;
Up again, another generous bedroom – again with stunning mountain views – and with a smaller bedroom to the back of the house…..
The entrance to the garden is set off the main living room at first floor… step up to a decked area, either with your morning tea or coffee or with your choice of evening aperatif and just look about you in all directions….;The Chateau itself is hidden by its’ encircling woods… but you can look out over the entire village to the hills beyond as the sun sets…. and up to the tiny chapel hidden in the hills that encircle the village. It is just so beautiful…. The terrace has plenty of space for open air meals and the current owners have ensured privacy by surrounding the terrace area with bamboo fencing on two sides leaving the third side open to enjoy the views….
At the moment the land behind is carpeted with falling leaves, the trees on the hills are changing colour to golds and ochres, and the mountains of the Pyrenees in the distance look as though someone has put icing on them… if you are up early enough the morning light touches them with rose and gold ….and at night the moon rises and you can hear the owls hooting as they hunt….
In all the best of both worlds – countryside calm allied to vibrant, lively village with shops, bar restaurants, family run hotel – all the services you might need in the village or close by –
Joe and I both feel that this is a super house in a magical location…..a total joy….;and a rare find that we are proud to be representing… utterly love it.
