Absolutely gorgeous house in a charming village…This is one of our totally favorite properties, the current owners have updated and improved the property whilst keeping the classic French flavour….
It is a classic, elegant home – built , we suspect, by someone who had the wonderful combination of money and good taste . It’s the detail in this house that makes it stand out from other properties of roughly the same age. Before the word “Flow ” was ever used in relation to houses the designer had clearly thought everything through, and has come up with one of the most livable houses we’ve ever come across.
And where the designer chose to build was carefully chosen too. It is just down the road from the local Chateau and, as a corner house, it has far more light than houses that have neighbours to each side. The front facade is charming – generous windows to either side of the massive wood front door. To the rear of the house, overlooking the low maintenance garden, balconies have been added to give glorious views across the surrounding countryside and to add architectural interest in a lighthearted way. Something about balconies, fun to look up at – especially when they are as pretty as these are – and, from the inside, giving an extra dimension that a mere window could never give.
At ground floor “practicalities ” are to your left, “relaxing” and “entertaining” are to your right. And, straight ahead, leading up from the generous entrance hall , is a stunning, dark wood staircase, swirling up to the floors above.
On the ” practicalities ” side to your left is a country kitchen, large enough for comfortable informal eating, and, behind that is the back kitchen, also large, and housing the essentials that you don’t particularly want to look at.
To your right, the ” relaxing ” and ” entertaining side, is the formal dining room which leads through to a seriously large drawing room that, in turn, leads, via double French doors into the cleverly designed, low maintenance garden. Tucked away just before the garden doors is a spacious washroom and toilet with storage space hidden to the side of its entrance inner corridor. It’s just so practical….
This property does not have a single room that could be described as ” stingy ” … all the bedrooms are airy, and built in the days when space was not the luxury it has become nowadays. The master bedroom is a particular joy, fitted with its own ensuite, it is the size of a studio flat..
At the top floor of this property is a totally self contained, double level flat…complete with balconies…. the open plan living room is big enough to to be a flat in its own right, and the current owners have put in a state of the art fitted kitchen that has never yet been used….
If you are looking for a family home that will happily absorb family and friends ( at the same time ) without feeling stretched….. this could be perfect for you.
Each bedroom has its own identity, and everyone will find their own favorite….super house in every way.
The village is a huge bonus, friendly Bar/ restaurant in easy walking distance, the village hall is used as a Farmers’ Market selling some of the best fruit and vegetables for miles around…. and just up the road, no more than 5 minutes by car , is Lac de Montbel. Here is the link to show you just how lovely it is….
