This is one of our utterly favorite properties – elegant, immaculate, charming and with everything one would hope for from a truly classic Maison Bourgeoise.  Unlike many properties, this has been renovated with an attention to detail and a respect for the age of the property that has moved it seamlessly into current levels of comfort, losing none of the charm of the original but making it into a home where you only need to bring your suitcases to begin enjoying all it has to offer.

It really has everything, from the classic Languedocian tiles in the entrance hall and the garden room, to the hugely generous room sizes and the stone balcony to the main bedroom.  Yet it has all this with enough bathrooms, central heating, modern electricity, and all the wonderful comforts that we so rarely find in old, elegant properties.  The outside space is joyous too, both the drawing room and the garden room lead onto the vast terrace below the balcony at first floor level, steps lead down into the garden – big, but not so vast as to be too time consuming.  Best of all, at the bottom of the garden, steps leads down to a little river.  To sit with an aperitif – I felt Pimms would be appropriate in summer – listening to the river, looking out over the hills opposite, well really, how good can life be?
All the bedrooms to the rear of this property have this lovely view, and they are all large, airy and elegant.  Another huge plus point is the gentle arch that splits the dining room from the drawing room, the current owners have ensured that these areas can be thrown into one huge room or, by drawing the curtains, separate the two areas totally.  From the drawing room you have the choice of walking out onto the terrace or going into the garden room – practically a conservatory, and with the most delightful woodwork emphasising the indoor / outdoor feel.  A truly delightful space, looking directly onto the garden leading down to the river.
To the left of the entrance corridor there is a room sized inner hall, ( I’d be tempted to turn it into a library – bags of space ) leading to the gorgeous staircase up to the first and second floors.  I am a total fan of high quality old staircases, good tread heights that make going upstairs a pleasure rather than a chore, and satisfying turns to the stairs – rather than abrupt changes.  A particular delight are the steps leading up to the main bedroom area.  this defines the space, yet gives you no idea of the balcony to come.
Behind the inner hall, a true ” country ” kitchen for informal eating, complete with a back kitchen housing all the electrical essentials and leading to the terrace.  A masterpiece of practical planning, easy to get to the terrace, the country kitchen and also the more formal dining room, brilliant arrangement of outdoor space.
And, for the icing on the cake – a garage.  All in all a totally wonderful property, easy to live in, fabulous original features still in place and with outside space that is stunning.  We are extremely happy to representing this property – and Jennifer and I both had a serious attack of the ” I could live here ” feelings – what more can we say?
