To visit this gorgeous property is to be transported to my personal memories of the Greek Islands – but this oh so much closer in the South West of France – minutes away from a bustling town with shops, good restaurants, vibrant markets and wonderful little bars where you can watch the world go by. Arrive at the property to the smell of wild thyme, pass the field full of olive trees that also belongs to this property, look out over the town below and the craggy hills beyond, fields to either side starred with vivid pink wildflowers – then step onto the deck that surrounds the pool, with a really serious summer kitchen to one side of it. You will feel as though you are on holiday! And just imagine, if you lived here you would be….
The property itself continues the holiday feeling, surrounded by terraces, both decked and gardened, no immediate neighbours, wonderful views, lovely generous rooms, beautifully decorated, all you need to do is bring your suitcases. You can choose between eating on the terrace or both cooking and eating at the side of the pool – or even take a picnic down to the olive field. The open piece à vivre is inviting with the lovely chimney diving the relaxing and eating spaces. The kitchen turns off at an angle so that the entire space feels open and airy with the french doors onto the terrace and pool area. The master bedroom and one of the other bedrooms also have french windows onto the terrace and pool. The 3rd bedroom isn’t at a disadvantage at all, however, because it’s views are to the hills beyond with not a neighbor in sight. At the lower level is a garage and separate 1 bedroom apartment and workshop.
The location can’t be beat – Jennifer drives a great big Mercedes SUV – but she swung it out of the carport at the top of the drive, and described a neat turn to drive down to the town without even denting the lavender. You could walk the distance as well, but hilltop properties always have the trade-off of the more difficult trek home! The property is beautifully maintained, the current owners adore it and are only selling to be nearer family. An added bonus is that the farmland surrounding the property cannot be built on due to water access limits – so comforting to know that your view and lifestyle will not be subject to development. Shade trees abound, so that even on the hottest day you can relax in dappled or full shade. The summer kitchen is roofed – a huge bonus not only in summer but also in Autumn when showers can arrive, inevitably on the day when you least want them to.
It’s an amazing property, and were you to be the next owner Jennifer and I do wonder if you will ever want to make the effort to ” go on holiday ” again – everything is here. We also feel that were this to be a family holiday home it could generate very healthy income in the time you don’t want to use it yourselves. The town at the bottom of the drive, set in a bowl shaped valley, ringed by hills, provides everything needed to put the icing on the cake – canoeing, rafting, riding and every country activity you might want. We’ve both eaten in the restaurants here and can confirm that excellent food is easily available. It’s on the wine route too – also the Cathar castles route, and the Mediterranean is only just over an hour away. Andorra, for tax free shopping and winter sports, is easily accessible, and Perpignan and Spain are simple to reach by car – a level of nearness that makes a late lunch on the Costa Brava seriously simple. Airports are available in Carcassonne, Toulouse and Barcelona for long international flights.
We both think that this is a fabulous buy, wonderful location, priced to sell, an utter joy – and we recommend this property totally. The property will function equally well in the depths of winter – but we freely admit to falling in love with its summer style. Total ” one off ” where you will always feel as though you are on holiday. Please call us to visit today!
