Tucked just off the main village Square – in one of our favourite villages, Puivert, and within a few minutes easy walking distance of the lake and the amazing Brasserie of Quercorb, is this stunning village house that we are totally delighted to be able to offer for sale to you.

Designed and renovated by a Master Carpenter who we believe is now retired, this extraordinary property is quite simply a new house within an old house.  From the moment you open the wonderful double doors of this amazing house and step inside the generous entrance hall floored with classic large diamond-patterned black and white tiles, it just gets better and better. There is even a small office area tucked discretely under the stairs.

Climbing the stairs brings you to the main living area on the first floor, the magnificent bespoke staircase continuing up to the second floor. The house has beautiful wooden flooring throughout and the spacious open plan landings on both floors are generously lit by dual velux roof lights above the stairwell that bring a modern take on a ‘puit lumiere’. A total one-off!

Off the first landing is a vast L-shaped living room, the large pretty country-style kitchen and a toilet with shower room.

The living room has a front aspect and with its three full length shuttered windows creates a light, airy and spacious feel. It is large enough to comfortably allow for dining as well as relaxing peacefully. The large wood-burning stove adds the finishing touch for winter cosiness.

The country kitchen has a central island with breakfast bar for informal eating and general kitchen socialising. There are plenty of bespoke cupboards throughout. At one end of the kitchen is a den/snug area for relaxing and this also has a wall of cupboard space. From the kitchen there is access to the rear garden and also the back stairs down to the utility room for washing machine.

Moving up the staircase to the second floor spacious landing, finds three ensuite bedrooms. A large master bedroom to the front with walk-in dressing room and large bathroom with jacuzzi bath with shower over.

The two other bedrooms to the rear each have a shower room with toilet. One room could be for two single beds or a large double, the other a single or double room.

The rear kitchen door leads out to the garden and on to a decked terrace, which in turn leads to a charming mature garden, gravelled and spilling over with Love in a Mist, Paeonies, shrubs, and, just for the fun of it, a perfectly splendid Rhubarb plant. At the end of the garden is a further decked terrace with a fig tree acting as the end stop.  Like the house, the garden is completely charming and with the stone BBQ it is perfect for dining al fresco or pre-lunch aperos when you feel like eating in.

The village of Puivert has a super lake with restaurant/bar and café where you can relax and enjoy the stunning Pyrenean foothills scenery. There is a beached area for safe bathing and a small jetty for the more exuberant. On the opposite side there is fishing. During the summer months there is a vibrant Wednesday evening market by the lake with music, street food and crafts. The Bastille day fireworks display on a Wednesday in July is an event not to be missed – it is truly spectacular.

In the village centre and within easy walking distance, there are a further two restaurants and the wonderful Brasserie du Quercorb serving their own crafted artisanal beers and pizzas. BDQ also host music nights and the fish and chip evenings, with the mobile fish & chip van parked opposite, are incredibly popular.

This is a super house in a delightful and friendly village. In addition to the house, some of the furniture could be for sale by Private Treaty giving you a property ready to use from day one: just bring your suitcases!

Joseph and I are delighted to be representing this totally unusual and stunning home and, just to put the icing on the cake, there is a vast, ground floor room that can be anything you want – currently used as a gym but could equally turn into ground floor ‘loft’ space plus a garage or could be converted to additional living space. All-in-all good potential to create something of your own.

Please, don’t hesitate to ask all and any questions about this property or the local area. We are delighted to help.
