Delightfully rare house – a village house but with vaulted cellars leading to a walled garden – not only a garden, but also a terrace at ground floor level complete with built in Barbeque!  Jennifer and I both felt that it would be wonderful to use the cellars as part of the garden – it can get seriously hot here in summer so the ability to eat or relax in the shade is not to be sneezed at.  It’s a very pretty space with the vaulting framing the garden entrance  – this, plus the generous terrace gives you the best of both worlds.

For winter the owners have put in a wonderfully efficient log burner in the main living area – we stepped into the house and it was wonderfully toasty warm – bliss on a cold dark winter day.  Also highly practical, the house has an attached garage.  Parking is not a problem here, but no one can deny that a garage is a positive bonus.  A door leading from the garage to the main living area ensures that after a major shop you’ll never be standing in the rain unloading.  The owners have undertaken a well thought out renovation – modern, sun filled kitchen that opens onto the living space on one side and the terrace on the other.  There’s a cloakroom plus bathroom at ground floor level and all the bedrooms are seriously generous, far larger than in many village houses.

The location is great too.  It is in a village about 10 minutes from Chalabre with its own swimming lake in the village and the added plus of a super little restaurant bar on the banks of the lake.  In summer there is an evening market each week and they have one of the best firework displays for miles around.  It’s a very friendly village with a particularly helpful Mairie – always good if you have any questions.

The house is tucked away in one of the oldest village streets – tiny and rarely used for through traffic – and you can walk to the wonderful local Brasserie – Brasserie du Quercorb – in less than five minutes.  Great food, lots of events and wonderful hand made beers, plus, of course, glorious wines from this area and beyond.  One of the nicest ways of spending an evening in this whole area.

In all, this is a house where you can walk in, bring your suitcases and start enjoying it immediately.  The kitchen is new, there is the amazing log burner and the house is decently insulated – so cool in summer, warm in winter.  If you are looking for a house in a lively, friendly village, with lots going on, this could be perfect. yet still has the scope to put your own stamp on it in your own time.   Terrace, garden, garage – it’s all there – and the village is a joy.  We look forward to visiting with you.
