Utterly, utterly delightful little house, brilliantly renovated by a charming young couple with two equally delightful children.  The house is an old, stone built village house – but is rare in that it has attached outside space –  a charming courtyard garden – which has also been updated to give space for sitting out or eating with friends with friends, seriously well done as a low wall has been built all around the courtyard  ( at perfect sitting height ) giving bags of seating space. It’s gorgeous …..
As you come in there is a storage room to your left – this couuld so easily turn into a ground floor bedroom, office space, or whatever you want it to be….. behind it it is currently fitted out as a utility room  –  with two youngsters there’s a need for bicycles, ski gear, camping gear etc etc – but, as there is water laid on for the washing machine it could be turned into a second bathroom that could serve the current storage room…..
At first floor there is a spacious living room;, with a built in kitchen that leazds directly to the courtyard garden…… it is just SO pretty …..it’s got a woodburner fitted plus backup electric heating (although I personally doubt if you’d need to use it ) these old houses really hold the heat in winter and keep the heat out in summer  – lot to be said in favour of old building techniques…..  the owners have opened two rooms into one one large romm – and the result is charming – and higely practical ….
Upstairs again and you have a generous main bedroom and a family bathroom  –  also an unusually generous size –  built in storage in the bedroom and the bathroom is big enough to split in two if wished ….The top floor is currently their chidrens’ bedroom…(.using all the loft space) with a large play area to the front of the house.. It has to be said that head room is a bit of an issue if you are tall. The apex if high enough for me to stand up in – but a really tall person probably couldn’t … great for a spare bedroom / office space or for children …..but less gthan ideal on a daily basis for tall people.  Noot a problemthough as the ground floor storage room could provide an extra bedroom if needed…..
The house is in a tiny, edge of village, no through road, picture postcard pretty, like stepping back in time, and, at the bottom of the road it turns into a path that leads to the village lake and the village tennis courts  –  wonderful location  –  close enough to walk to to all the shops, bars, market square, but far enough to give you the choice of dipping in  or enjoying the peace and quiet……
Other features ? Well, lots….. plenty of double glazing, seriously insulated roof with a velux roof window, new electricity throughout, no work to do…. bliss ….The refurbishment has conserved the original features and  Joe and I were both enchanted by the stairs  –  built around a single tree trunk, they have real Harry Potter feel to them  – almost as though the tree grew and then the house grew around it ….This is an excellent example of a “keep the old but update and add modern conveniences ” refurbishment of an old house.  The house is, almost certainly, a part of the Chateau complex of buildings… so, a Chateau just up the hill… and a wealth of history to this particular area of the village….
We feel that this is one of the best houses / best buys that we have seen for ages…. currently a familly home that exudes happiness… but could equally work for a couple, or a family with someone who needs a ground floor bedroom  –  ” wonderfully flexible and totally enchanting ” is our verdict, we both love it…..do come and see it  – we suspect that you will love it too ……
